Program Week!

Jamie's kids enjoyed a "nature center brought to your classroom" this morning. FOR FREE! The students were engaged and learning about animal sounds, animal adaptations and various creatures for an hour. Feel free to ask her for details or take advantage of this free learning opportunity for your class (they were each given a free flashlight as well!)

His name is Russ Gable: R_gabel@hotmail.com
There is a flyer on the white board and table in the staff center with more details as well.

Easter Blessings

May each of you revel in the HOPE, LOVE, SACRIFICE and PROMISE offered from our Father in heaven over this blessed weekend. Happy Easter, everyone!

Discovery Testing Window
Our testing window opens next week. We have two weeks to complete the reading and math assessment with our 1st and 2nd grade students.

Delta Math
Our final GO at the Delta Math Screener will take place mid-May. More details forthcoming.

Speaking of Assessments
When you're ready, would you please invite me to one or two of your running records? I'll come to the party with Coke and Candy and try to keep up with you. As we stated in the staff meeting, I'm simply looking for consistency and questions for us to talk through as a team.

April 25 Practice
All students come inside from lunch recess at 12:20-first bell. Second graders load Bus 14 ASAP. First graders load Bus 12 ASAP. Bus 14 will zip back here for kindergarten. K students have a few extra minutes to use the restroom and prep.

Goal is to begin practice at 12:45.

Bus 14 will bring kindergarteners back first upon completion of our practice. Bus 12 will bring first grade back at that time. Second graders will need to wait for Bus 14 on the return route.

We should be able to return just before the close of the day, around 2:45.

Final Collaboration Day

HC Squared in Spanish Room
HC Squared will be holding a Makers Morning on Wednesday, April 19. All of the action will be in the Spanish Room from 8:30-11:30 so that space is spoken for.

Pop-Up School Opportunity
"This summer Holland Christian would like to explore the idea of doing a Pop Up School around the Holland community as a grass roots level marketing effort to expose people to what the school is all about! One of the great things about this concept is that it is very flexible. It allows us to "pop up" in different locations, doing different hands-on educational activities thought the summer. With this idea, we are able to "pop up" at places like the Street Performers Series, Farmers Market, but also unique, out of the box places like churches or other community gathering spots.

We would like to do the Pop Up School 5-6 times around Holland this summer on various days and times that would be flexible. We are looking for 5-6 elementary teachers who would be interested in leading a Pop Up School one time each. The idea should be hands on and something you've done in your classroom or during Maker's Week (you do not have to reinvent the wheel) - something educational, hands on, and fun for the kids in the community to do! Teachers could also use current students to assist them in the hands on activity (for example, a teacher who chose to do something with Genius Hour could bring along 1-2 students who had unique projects that the kids in the community could replicate). HC would pay for supplies and would pay each teacher $100 for leading a Pop Up School. The $100 would be compensation for the prep time as well as leading the event, which would typically be about 2 hours long.

If you would be interested, please let your principal know by Friday. Thank you for your consideration!"

ELA Standards
In an effort to develop a viable scope and sequence of ELA instruction and learning, we are asked to complete two tasks:

#1- Look through your grade level Language CCSS and identify at least five standards that you feel are necessary for your students to demonstrate proficiency with and list them in the grade level specific document that I share individually with you.

#2- Look through the previous grade level Language CCSS and identify five standards that you feel are necessary for students coming into your grade level to demonstrate proficiency with and list them in the same grade level specific document as task #1.

Send your identified standards to Erin Wyma by April 28th please.

Pride and Prejudice! Discounted Tix!
Whether you are proud or prejudice, you need to come out to the Spring Show - Pride and Prejudice! Show dates are Friday, April 28 and Saturday, April 29...both at 7:00.

As staff members you get a 2 for 1 deal (2 tickets are listed at $5 a piece). Use the code “hsstaff” to purchase the two tickets at $5 instead of the normal $10. Purchase them online at: https://hchs.ludustickets.com/

DeMasters and Brouwers
In an effort to demonstrate support and love to the DeMasters and Brouwer family we had a staff member suggest why don't we gift them with a big, giant goodie basket! What a wonderful way to tangible offer some practical love, don't you think? We will have 2 tubs in the staff center to collect any and all items you may wish to give the families: food, gift cards, simple games, clothing, pictures from your students, snacks, etc. Any and all things that a family walking the rough road of battling cancer will find helpful. Thank you for ALWAYS being a blessing to others!
