| Thank you for ALLLLL you do! It's a busy stretch to the finish line. Grab your calendar and let's have at it! |
Tomorrow we flip the calendar to May and that means Tulip Time and the end-of-the-year roller coaster is upon us. Most of this Tulip Time information has already been communicated to you in a recent memo, but here it is again for your reference:
Kindergarten Dismissal for Tulip Time
➢ Thursday, May 7 - Kindergarten students dismissed at 11:30 AM - no bus service – ALL kindergarten students, Mrs. Becksfort’s, Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Strikwerda’s classes should be picked up at the front of school (circular drive).
If Thursday’s parade is postponed to Friday, May 8th
➢ Friday, May 8 - Kindergarten students dismissed at 11:30 AM - no bus service –Mrs. Strikwerda’s and Mrs. Johnson’s students should be picked up at the front of school (circular drive).
Parade and Busing Information
We are in the 2nd division, 12th unit this year. (We are right after the HC 6th Grade Band and ahead of Pine Ridge.)
The buses will leave South Side around 1:00PM. We will start loading the buses at 12:55 in the following order:
1st bus
Karen VM's class loads first, sits in the back
Amanda's class loads second, sits in the front, departs first at drop off, followed by Karen's class.
Any other adults coming along jump on this bus, please.
2nd bus
Jenna's class loads first, sits in back
Sheri's class loads second, sits in the front, departs first at drop off, following Karen VM's class.
In other words, we ride the buses in the exact order the classes march in the parade.
We'll walk at a leisurely, yet purposeful pace on the sidewalk from our drop off spot (likely by the Dow) to our staging spot on 8th street, staying together as best we can, keeping a watchful eye on everyone.
We will be lining up on 8th St. facing west, head resting on Columbia Ave.
Todd and co. will have all of our props, signs, and banners delivered to the parade site. When we arrive, and once we are sure of our position, we will grab our parade props and lay them out in position.
We will set up right behind the HCMS 6th grade band.
When we get there, we should have plenty of time. If warm, you may want to gather your chicks around you in the shade somewhere nearby. I'll be at the ready to take any pictures of you with your classes.
I'll let you know when it is time to roll. Then, it's smile and wave, everyone!
Parade End:
Todd and Co. will meet us at the end of the parade. We’ll turn west on 11th and continue to walk toward the fire station. As we get to the fire station driveway, or just beyond, we’ll simply handoff our props to Todd and Co. Parents should wait until we are stopped and clear of our props before claiming their students, and letting you know that they have them. If the bus back to school is leaving with staff, Rod will remain with the student until the parent/guardian arrives.
Rest up! It's going to be so much fun!
Discovery Assessment
Our final assessment window will take place between Monday, May 11 and close Friday, May 22. Our first and second grade students will need to have a code generated by you the day of the test (one for reading and one for math) and once again take the assessment on our iPads. Please don't hesitate to ask for assistance in any way.
Yellow Vest
Thankfully at South Side this year our children have played relatively injury-free, and we have not had many external security concerns thus far. However, we also want to keep it that way. For the recess times that you are designated a yellow vest, please try to be one of the first people out on the playground ready to greet students at the start of the recess time. When our recess period ends, it's also important for teachers or a representative to greet our students at the door in a timely manner. Serving as yellow vest is challenging if your class is taken inside, but students from another grade level are still waiting near their door. Thank you for maintaining this measure of security by being aware of timeliness with these two duties.
Kindergarten Visiting Day
On Friday, May 29, we will have all of our new, bright-eyed, bushy-tailed kindergarteners for the 2015-2016 school year visiting from 9:00-10:15. More exciting details to come!
Class List Meetings
First Grade Class List meeting: Monday, May 11 at 7:30 a.m.
Kindergarten Class List meeting: Thursday, May 14 at 7:30 a.m.
Second Grade Class List meeting DATE CHANGE: Friday, May 15 at 7:30 a.m. Does that work?

Branding/HC Story
Have you had a chance to sign up for your slot? You only have to do one, but you certainly may do two! :)
Batons
Just a gentle reminder. We won't do a baton writing party because, to be honest, we probably won't get much accomplished other than snarfing pizza and laughing. We're aiming for those to be completed by the last week of school.
Speaking of Lunch...
Our next Love, Logic and Lunch will take place on Thursday, May 14. Lunch will be provided this time thanks to the very grateful parent team.
Speaking of Grateful Parents...(enjoying the segues?)
Don't pack a lunch on Friday, May 15. The parent team will be treating us that day. Please partake to show acceptance of their appreciation. Encore staff, they have a special lunch to-go planned for you as well :)
Preschool graduation in the gym:
Tammy's class - Monday, May 18 afternoon
My 2 day class - Tuesday, May 19 9:30
My 3 day class - Wednesday, May 20 9:30
Field Day
Our field day has been moved to Tuesday, June 2 in the afternoon. This means we will have all-school field day in leu of encore classes on that date.
Google Calendar
As you read earlier this week, all staff have been given editing privileges to our South Side Staff Google Calendar. If your class or grade (including preschool, please) are planning an event that will impact other classes or our building in any way, please make note on the calendar so we don't double book events.
Parking in the Spring
As if you can hold any more information in your heads! When parking in the morning, our lawn care specialists have requested that we try to leave our cars off of the grass so they don't have to mow around our cars.
Chapel Dates:
We have had to make a few tweaks to our chapel schedule to accomodate all the wonderful events coming and going throughout May. Please take note of the following:
May 6--Jenna's class
May 27--Rus Blondin
June 5--End of the year chapel celebration at 10:45. Please take note of the alternate time for this special chapel. Once again we will have a chapel, then pray over our second graders, line the hallway and send them off South Side style.
