By the time these children of ours reach second grade, we've all had a hand in shaping and growing them in this tender soil at South Side. It makes your heart burst, doesn't it? Some of them began their journey with us as three-year-olds. Look at their faces. Can you see joy, comfort, friendship, enthusiasm? They have found home here. An honest, God-centered home where they are learning who they are as a child of God. They are learning to follow His call in life. There have been hard days. There have been joyous days. We have lived into each of them. I think this group of children God has assembled to grow here at South Side have received our best. I believe God is proud of our work (is that in poor taste to say? Did I just sign myself up for a good-sized fall?) Come away and rest a while now, friends. I'm eager to hear what adventures God has in store for each of you over the summer months. Thank you, for answering God's call and serving Him right here at South Side!

Bigby Coffee has gifted each one of us with a free coffee card! Come to the office to grab yours! How kind of them! 

School Specialty Catalog Station
In the staff center you will find the only three School Specialty paper catalogs we have been given. We still do request that your School Specialty orders be placed online. Your instructions to access School Specialty (web address, log in. etc.) can be found in your check out packet. Please don't hesitate to see Pat or me with questions (let's be real. Pat is SO your lifeline, but I can cheer you on!) ;)

Ed Committee Opening
Teachers, there is a unique opportunity to serve as a member of our education committee. As a representative of South Side, you can help make district-level decisions, engage in debates, voice opinions from the early elementary perspective and bring back information and/or questions for our team. The education committee consists of teachers, administrators and school board members. The group meets once each month from 7:00-9:00 in the morning. Please feel free to contact Karen Strikwerda, who has graciously served for several years and remains willing, with questions. Or please see me with questions or expressing interest. Thank you!

This day’s activities are meant specifically for teachers. Central office admin staff are welcome to grab breakfast though.

8:00am Campus Specific Activities

a) K-6 Math Teachers and K-6 ESS Teachers - Training with Robyn

   Decker (ISD Math Consultant) in the HCHS Media Center.

b) K-6 Non-Math Teachers:

• K-6 Encore: Meet in HCHS room #202 and bring your computers.
• Other K-6 core subject, non-Math teachers: Meet in HCHS room #202 and bring your computers and iPads.

c) Middle School Teachers - Closing activities back at HCMS

d) High School Teachers - Year wrap-up activities and looking ahead

   activities in the HCHS Lecture Hall

11:15am Lunch on your own

12:00pm Free afternoon for teachers to clean out classrooms, finalize records,

check out with principals, various curricular and department meetings as needed,

etc.

TUESDAY 6/6

All HC employees are invited to partake in the omelet breakfast. See notes on remaining activities for who should attend.

7:30am Custom omelets in the HCHS Cafeteria (All HC employees welcome).

8:30am Apple Distinguished School activities in HCHS Cafeteria (Teachers and

Parapros). The new criteria for our Apple Distinguished School status involves

campus-by-campus certification, rather than a blanket certification for all of

Holland Christian. It also necessitates that our teachers demonstrate proficiency

in various Apple software tools. The cafeteria will be set up with a variety of

stations for people to test themselves, work through training modules, seek help

where they’re stuck, and help mentor others. In this fairly low-stakes, fun

environment, we should be able to accomplish what we need to do for almost

everyone.

Green Commute Week
We had wonderful participation in our Green Commute Week! Thank you for tracking your students' participation. There is a little green blinky light for each child to take home and attach to their bike. You can take your class set from the table in the staff center.

Israel
I will be out from June 9 through June 23. I understand I'll be checking email sporadically. I will be eager to return to share the lessons and stories with you!
